Overview:

On 29 August 2022, the Indian Automotive Industry Standards Committee issued the second revision (Amendment 2) of AIS-156 and AIS-038 with immediate effect on the date of issue.

Major updates in the AIS-156 (Amendment 2):

In REESS, new requirements for RFID label, IPX7 (IEC 60529) and thermal spread test are added.

As for cell, new requirements such as production date and testing are added. The production date should be specific to the month and year, and date codes are not accepted. In addition, cell needs to obtain the test approval of Part 2 and Part 3 of IS 16893 from NABL accredited laboratories. In addition, at least 5 charging and discharging cycle data are required.

In terms of BMS, new requirements for EMC in AIS 004 Part 3 or Part 3 Rev.1 and the requirements for data recording function in IS 17387 are added.

In REESS, new requirements for RFID tag and IPX7 (IEC 60529) test are added.

Conclusion:

With the second revision, there are fewer differences in testing between AIS-038 (Rev.02) and AIS-156. They have more demanding testing requirements than their reference standards ECE R100.03 and ECE R136.
