CB Certification

MCM ensures battery safety with CB Certification under the IECEE CB Scheme from an authorized Certification Body.

What is CB Certification?

CB certification is an international certification system based on the IEC standard, which provides globally recognized CB certificates for electrical products by unifying the testing and certification process. Issued by an authorized Certification Body, the IECEE CB scheme certification simplifies product entry into multiple country markets.

CB certification applies to a variety of batteries, such as lithium and nickel batteries, to ensure safety and compliance with international standards. Through the IECEE CB scheme, battery products can undergo a single test that supports multiple applications, making export and certification transfer more convenient.

  • Full Lifecycle Support – Testing from development to market ensures compliantCB Certification.
  • Efficient Certification – Experienced team handlesIECEE CB scheme certification smoothly and quickly.
  • Regulatory Insight – Up-to-date guidance ensures products meet IECEE CB scheme
  • Global Reach – Accredited Certification Bodiesenable CB Certificates for international markets.
  • Reliable Quality – Strict management guarantees accurate, secure certification

Importance of CB Certification for Battery Manufacturers

CB scheme is crucial for battery manufacturers, not only as an international recognition of product safety and quality but also as a key passport to the global market.

Key Standards for CB Certification System

IEC 60086-4

This standard specifies safety tests and requirements for primary batteries to ensure their safety in normal use.

IEC 62133-1

It applies to nickel-based batteries for portable electronic products, including single cells and batteries, and establishes their safety performance requirements and test methods.

IEC 62133-2

For lithium batteries (including lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries), it clarifies the safety requirements and test items for batteries to ensure their safety under normal use and foreseeable misuse.

IEC 62619

For secondary lithium batteries and battery packs for industrial use, including energy storage systems, it defines the safety requirements and test methods.

CB Certification Process for Batteries

The IECEE CB scheme certification is an international system established by the IEC, providing globally recognized CB Certification for batteries and electrical products. Its “one test, accepted everywhere” principle allows safety results from accredited Certification Bodies to be mutually recognized, promoting international trade.

By obtaining a CB certificate and test report, manufacturers ensure product safety compliance, gain recognition in other member countries, and can export directly or transfer certifications, such as converting to Korea’s KC certificate. The IECEE CB scheme simplifies testing and certification processes, giving battery manufacturers a reliable pathway to global market access.

FAQ

CB test is an international certification system based on IEC standards, operated by the IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE). It is designed to ensure that battery products comply with international safety standards and promote global trade.
Not all countries are mandatory for battery products through the IECEE CB scheme, but many countries regard it as one of the basic requirements for battery imports, and CB certification allows for smoother and faster entry into the international market.
CB scheme is based on the IEC standard international mutual recognition system. Obtaining CB certification means that the product complies with the IEC standard and passes the relevant tests.
IEC standard certification usually refers to a single standard certification based on the IEC standard, which does not involve an international mutual recognition agreement.
The lead time for CB certification varies depending on the complexity of the product and the testing and usually takes anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
Yes, CB certification covers lithium batteries, including lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries, tested to IEC 62133.

The IECEE CB Scheme Certification is an international system for mutual recognition of test results and CB Certificates on the safety of electrical and electronic products. Based on a multilateral agreement between participating countries and certification bodies, it facilitates global trade by making it easier for manufacturers to obtain country-specific certificates. MCM supports manufacturers through the entire CB process, ensuring compliance and smooth international market access.

The CB procedure relies on international IEC and CISPR standards. Where national standards differ, deviations can be considered if formally reported to the IECEE secretariat. Through IECEE CB scheme certification, MCM ensures that products meet both international standards and any special national requirements, streamlining global compliance.

National Certification Bodies (NCBs) from each member country of the IECEE can participate, provided their national standards align with IEC standards. Accredited certification bodies issue CB certificates after on-site audits and compliance verification under ISO/IEC 17065.

The IECEE CB scheme covers a wide range of electrical products, including:

  • IT and office equipment: IEC 60950, IEC 62368
  • Household appliances: IEC 60335
  • Batteries: IEC 62133
  • Lighting systems: IEC 60598, IEC 61347
  • Medical electrical devices: IEC 60601
  • Measuring, control, and lab equipment: IEC 61010
  • EMC testing: CISPR14 and others
  • Electric vehicles, photovoltaics, cables, industrial automation, energy efficiency components, and more.
