Vietnam’s MIC has entered a period of adjustment

Starting from December 6, 2024, Vietnam officially issued Document No. 141/KH-BCDTKNQ18, in accordance with Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW: to fully launch the reorganization of government agencies.

The merger of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is progressing, which is expected to have profound implications for the national regulatory framework for ICT products. Vietnamese Government Integration: The MIC and MOST merger is underway. According to official documents, the MIC and MOST are planned to be combined into the Ministry of Science, Technology and Digital Transformation, or the Ministry of Science, Technology, Digital Transformation and Communications (MST). This restructuring aims to streamline the organization and improve governance efficiency. The merger is currently underway, and relevant management responsibilities are gradually being transferred.

Certification policies are changing, and the following points are particularly critical:

  1. Current scope of application:

Vietnam still implements QCVN 101:2020/BTTTT (safety requirements) for lithium batteries in consumer electronics (such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops)

  1. Trend of change:

As the merger progresses, MIC’s existing ICT mark will cease use; radio, telecommunications, and IT products may continue to use the CR conformity mark. This means that future certification paths and marking systems may undergo restructuring and convergence. Companies should understand these developments early and adjust compliance strategies accordingly, especially for those involved in mic certification and cb certification processes.
