In September 2025, Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), together with the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), released the Battery Energy Storage System Certification and Labelling Guideline (First Edition).
The guideline sets out the testing and certification framework required for energy storage batteries — including lithium-ion, lead-acid, and nickel-based chemistries — seeking entry into the Malaysian market, establishing a clearer and more structured compliance pathway for manufacturers.
At this stage, the certifications outlined in the guideline remain voluntary.
The specific requirements for any mandatory implementation shall be governed solely by the official documents issued by MITI.
