Electric bicycle batteries will be mandatory under national regulation2

Verview:

On January 12, 2022, the Standardization Administration of the P.R.C. issued the notice of “Guidelines for National Standardization Establishment in 2022″. This notice aims to implement the “National Standardization Development Outline” and do a good job in standard establishment in 2022.

The Major Focus on Regulatory Standards:

Focusing on the hotspots that are widely concerned by the people, and the frequent occurrence of social security accidents, we underline the formulation and revision projects to support the implementation of laws and regulations, meanwhile strengthening the standard, streamlining, integrating and revising projects, and establishing projects that urgently need revision after review. The focuses shall be on the following areas.

  • Primary product safety standards: seed (seeds, breeding livestock and poultry) safety, energy safety standards;
  • Industrial product safety standards: safety of battery for electric bicycles, safety of baby products, safety of plastic products;
  • Resource and environmental safety standards: pollutant discharge, environmental quality, energy consumption quota for key industries
  • Public safety standards: electrochemical energy storage safety, hazardous chemical safety, financial safety, building fire safety.

The safety of batteries for electric bicycles, the safety of electrochemical energy storage, and the safety of hazardous chemicals listed above are all related to lithium batteries. Lithium battery production, sales and related enterprises should pay more attention to product safety and improve the safe design and production to reduce risks in the later stages of the product.

In addition, on January 18, 2022, the China Electronic Standardization Institute has started the formulation of the “Safety Requirements for Lithium Batteries and Battery Packs for Electric Energy Storage Systems”.
