India: Latest parallel testing guidelines released

India Latest parallel testing guidelines released

On January 9, 2024, the Bureau of Indian Standards released the latest parallel testing guidelines, announcing that parallel testing will be converted from a pilot project to a permanent project, and the product range is expanded to include all electronic and information technology products with mandatory CRS certification. The following is the specific content of the guide presented by MCM in a question and answer format.

Q: What is the applicable scope of parallel testing?

A: The current parallel testing guidelines (published on January 9, 2024) apply to all electronic and information technology products under CRS.

Q: When will parallel testing be conducted?

A: Parallel testing is effective from January 9, 2024, and will be effective permanently.

Q: What is the testing process for parallel testing?

A: Components and terminals at all levels (such as cells, batteries, adapters, notebooks) can submit test requests for testing at the same time. The cell final report is issued first. After writing the cell report number and laboratory name in the ccl of the battery report, a battery final report can be issued. Then the battery and adapter (if any) need to issue a final report and after writing the report number and laboratory name on the ccl of the notebook, the final report of the notebook can be issued.

Q: What is the certification process for parallel testing?

A: Cells, batteries, adapters and terminals can be submitted for registration at the same time, but BIS will review and issue certificates step by step.

Q: If the end product has not applied for certification, can the cells and batteries be tested in parallel?

A: Yes.

Q: Are there any regulations on the time to fill in the test request for each component?

A: Test requests for each component and end product can be generated at the same time.

Q: If testing in parallel, are there any additional documentation requirements?

A: When conducting testing and certification based on parallel testing, undertaking documents need to be prepared, signed and stamped by the manufacturer. The undertaking should be sent to the laboratory when sending the test request to the lab, and submitted together with other documents in the registration stage.

Q: When the cell certificate has been completed, can the battery, adapter and complete machine still be tested in parallel?

A: Yes.

Q: If the cell and battery are tested in parallel, can the battery wait until the cell certificate is issued and write the R number information of the cell in the ccl before issuing a battery final report for submission?

A: Yes.

Q: When can a test request for an end product be generated?

A: The test request for the end product can be generated at the earliest when the cell generates the test request, and at the latest after the final report of the battery and adapter is issued and submitted for registration.

A: When BIS reviews battery certification, it may require the application ID number of the end product. If the end product does not submit an application, the battery application may be rejected.
